The 3* AA Cumbria Grand Hotel in Grange over Sands is set in 25 acres of gardens and woodlands, and is only a short drive from Lake Windermere. Bathrooms have bathtubs and showers and the spacious rooms also feature a TV, hairdryers and tea-coffee making facilities. Many rooms have panoramic sea views over Morecambe Bay and beyond to the Yorkshire Dales. This charming Victorian hotel has a large ballroom, its own tennis court and putting green. The advent of the Furness Railway transformed this small fishing village into the fashionable Victorian/Edwardian resort, where there were many wealthy merchants & grand houses.
Sunday Day 1 – Travelling north, comfort breaks will be made enroute to Grange-over-Sands. A welcome glass of Fizz is included on arrival followed by a hotel dinner.
Monday Day 2 - Breakfast included.
This morning begins with a coach transfer to Bowness-on-Windermere, for an included visit to the World of Beatrix Potter. Here your experience starts with a short film introducing you to the amazing Beatrix Potter and Peter, the most famous rabbit in the world. The World of Beatrix Potter celebrates everything about Beatrix Potter – the English author and illustrator who is best known for her imaginative children’s books, the most famous of all being ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’. Beatrix Potter wrote 23 enchanting stories which the Attraction brings to life in a magical recreation of the Lake District countryside. You will have free time afterwards in Bowness, one of Cumbria’s most popular destinations. A hotel packed lunch is included before joining a 40-minute Windermere cruise, to Lakeside where you will re-join the coach. Returning to the hotel, dinner is included. The dates of the 2 evenings hotel entertainment are to be confirmed.
Tuesday Day 3 - Breakfast included.
Visit to Grasmere a charming village in the heart of the National Park and once the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. William Wordsworth was born in 1770 and by the time of his death in 1850, Wordsworth had produced some of English poetry’s greatest works and influenced future generations of poets. A hotel packed lunch is included today. You will have free time here to explore or you may choose our pre-bookable optional visit to nearby Dove Cottage. This is a beautifully preserved Lakeland Cottage and the 400- year-old home of Wordsworth, where you will see an introductory film before a self-guided tour where you will experience a unique insight into the writer, his family and friends and life in the Lake District two hundred years ago.
Dove Cottage is almost as it was when Wordsworth’s lived there and contains items of his furniture, personal effects owned by him, his family and his circle of friends and evidence of how everyday life was lived in the early 1800’s. Lakeland Motor Museum. Feast your eyes on a unique collection of 30,000 exhibits. That includes 140 classic cars and motorbikes, all carefully assembled over 50 years. The Museum isn’t just about cars. The entire collection is presented in a social context, with a host of rarities to awaken some special motoring memories. Displays include; Campbell Bluebird Displays, Isle of Man TT Tribute, Pedal cars and cycles, realistic mannequins, including a Woman’s Land Army Girl with a 1940’s Fordson tractor, Allied Forces with a WWII Willy’s Jeep and a 1920’s Gangster evocative of America’s prohibition era. There is also a 1920’s garage and 1950’s café. hotel, where dinner is included.
Wednesday Day 4 - Breakfast included.
This morning is a leisurely one in the market town of Kendal, home to a fine selection of shopping arcades and which also boasts two castles, two museums and a host of historical buildings and bridges. Wednesday is also one of its market days. The town’s history varies from the Romans, who left their mark with the camp at Watercrook on the banks of the river Kent, to the Normans who left the town with not one but two castles and a church, only a few feet narrower than the mighty York Minster. You might choose to visit the Quaker Tapestry Museum (local cost), which tells the story of Quakers in 77 embroidered panels covering over 350 years of social history. Alongside the panels of embroidery, the Quaker Tapestry Collection consists of just under 1,000 artefacts, which bring social history to life. A hotel packed lunch is included before this afternoon’s visit to Leighton Hall for an included ‘exclusive’ guided candle-lit tour of this much-loved family home located at the centre of an agricultural estate since mediaeval times. During your guided tour you will discover the history of the hall and how it has changed in appearance and size over almost 800 years. Enjoy the famous collection of Gillow furniture & objets d’art. Tea / coffee is included before returning to the hotel for dinner.
Thursday Day 5 – Checking out of the hotel after breakfast. Comfort breaks will be made during the journey, returning you to your original departure point.
