Zagreb Christmas Markets

Although the capital of Croatia, Zagreb is sometimes overlooked as a destination which is a real shame, as it has so much to offer!
Many raised their eyebrows when Zagreb was voted the Best Christmas Market in Europe, a title it has now retained for 3 consecutive years.
The Croatian capital's Advent programme reaches all corners of the city and includes a variety of events, concerts, gastronomy, ice skating and more, all tastefully decorated with festive lighting + imagery.
The smell of mulled wine and local delicacies fill the air and laughter and romance can be found on every corner, as locals and visitors alike take to the streets, enjoying this welcome breath of life during the winter months.

The two main parts of the city are:
• The 1000-year-old Gornji grad (Upper Town), home to the Presidential Palace, the iconic St Mark’s Church, the Croatian parliament (Sabor) and museums and galleries, all set around cobbled streets lit by gas lamps.
• The 19th-century Donji grad (Lower Town) with its shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres and parks.

Zagreb is also known as a city of museums as there are more per square foot than any other city in the world. But this doesn’t mean there is nothing else to do if you are not a history buff.
One of the many pleasures that the Zagrebcani (the locals) enjoy is relaxing in one of the numerous cafes watching the world go by. By night, there are many restaurants to choose between, many serving delicious Croatian dishes, before finishing the day in the one of the bars or clubs. Whatever you choose to do, you are guaranteed to have a good time!
