Littlecote House Hotel is a fabulous Grade I listed Tudor mansion set in 113 acres of landscaped gardens and rolling parklands. It also has a story that spans centuries, including playing host to occupying Romans, a Civil War army and was the location of a tryst between King Henry VIII and his third queen to be Jane Seymour. Today, the ensuite bedrooms are stylish and feature a flat screen TV, tea & coffee facilities, complimentary toiletries, telephone, hairdryer and iron/board. The in-house Entertainment team offers a range of daytime and evening activities, nightly entertainment and dancing and team shows. This hotel also boasts an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, bubble pool and Salon Spa.
Day 1 – Henley-on-Thames, famous for the Oxford & Cambridge Regatta and home of the fascinating River & Rowing Museum, which is just a short walk from the town centre. Follow in the footsteps of Midsomer’s Inspector Barnaby, as the long running TV series Midsomer Murders has used Henley on numerous occasions as a film location. Littlecote House Hotel for dinner and entertainment.
Day 2 – City of Salisbury. With timbered buildings, an Early English Gothic Cathedral which is home to the famous Magna Carta, a thriving market, a buzzing arts scene, museums and some of England’s finest historic houses there are many things for you to explore. Tuesdays is also Market Day when the hustle and bustle of the historic Charter Market fills the Market Place. Hotel entertainment.
Day 3 – Free day to enjoy the on-site facilities and activities or pre-book optional full day excursion to Blenheim Palace (subject to numbers).
Day 4 – Devizes, where Thursday is one of their market days. Visit the landmark Wadworth Brewery which dates back to Victorian times. This brewery site combines a tradition of craft with modern production techniques and systems. It boasts a free self-guided exhibition of brewing memorabilia, a unique collection of hand painted pub signs, and much more, there really is more to Wadworth than meets the eye.Their brewer's dray drawn by mighty Shire Horses is still a regular and much-loved sight on the town’s streets on a daily basis. One of the UK’s most iconic canals, the Kennet & Avon, passes through Devizes and for the more energetic, the famous flight of 29 locks are easily accessible on foot. Marlborough, High Street is one of the widest in the UK and is lined on both sides with characterful old buildings housing an array of high quality shops. Dinner and entertainment.
Day 5 – Swindon either visit STEAM, the Museum of the Great Western Railway which is housed in a beautifully restored railway building (entrance extra). Here you can explore the rich history of the GWR and hear about the extraordinary achievements by ordinary men and women during the Railway Revolution. You will meet life-like characters, including engineering genius Isambard Kingdom Brunel who created virtually every aspect of the GWR from London Paddington to Bristol and beyond. Alternatively, visit the Swindon Designer Outlet located adjacent to the museum.
An alternative to visiting Swindon and the GWR Museum or the Outlet centre is a visit in Oxford, known as the City of Spires.
