Sample Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Avignon - After your Eurostar/ TGV journey, you will be met on arrival by your local guide who will escort you by private coach to your hotel. Having checked in and freshened up, your 3 course evening meal is included tonight.

Day 2 - Avignon - Half day guided walking tour of Avignon in the morning.  See the walled city where you can visit the Palais des Papes (Palace of the Popes), and Pont St. Bénézet, the famous broken bridge referred to as ‘Pont d’Avignon’. Afternoon at leisure to explore yourself.

Day 3 - Orange and Chateauneuf-du-Pape -  Full day excursion with private coach and guide to Orange and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  The city of Orange, also known as the 'City of Princes', is home to two monuments which are part of UNESCO Heritage for Humanity – the Roman theatre, an outstanding Roman construction, in the best state of preservation of any Romany theatre in Europe. The Roman theatre still has its original stage wall ! The second monument for which Orange is famous is the monumental Arch of Triumph, with three openings, the very symbol of the glory of Roman imperialism. Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a medieval village on the side of a hill, guarded by the ruins of an ancient chateau towering above. From the chateau hill you have an outstanding view in all directions, mostly of vineyards, of course. Off to the east and south, the Rhône winds across the fields, and the afternoon sun turns it silver.

Day 4 -  Aix en Provence - Full day in Aix en Provence (market day) with private coach and guided walking tour. The former capital of Provence, Aix-en-Provence is known as ‘the city of a thousand fountains’ and is where Cézanne was born.

Day 5Uzes & the Pont du Gard - Full day excursion to Uzes & the Pont du Gard, an impressive aqueduct dating back to 19BC,with guided visit;  afternoon in Nimes with guided tour and private coach.  Nimes was founded by Emperor Augustus in the 2nd century AD due to its proximity to a spring in Uzès. Some call Nîmes the ‘Rome of France’.

Day 6  The Luberon - A tour of the Luberon with private coach and guide. Vineyards and orchards, fascinating perched hilltop villages, outstanding natural produce and the light of Van Gogh and Cezanne.

Day 7 - Return to UK by TGV / Eurostar.
