Day 1: On arrival you will be transferred to the hotel in the centre of Nice (approx. 15 minutes transfer time), where having checked in and freshened up, this evening is at leisure.
Day 2: Breakfast included. Today’s pre-bookable full day excursion is to the Principality of Monaco and Monte Carlo where you may decide to join the local Hop On, Hop Off Bus. Amongst places you might see are the stunning Oceanographic Museum, the Port, the famous Casino and gardens as well as the old town with its ramparts and Princely Palace – all entrances are payable locally. We suggest you allow time to discover the old town on foot with its narrow alleyways. You should aim to be at the palace to see the changing of the guard which takes place daily at 11.55hrs promptly, subject to weather. You might also choose to take a stroll around the marina and the Monaco Yacht Club before returning to Nice late afternoon for an evening at leisure.
Day 3: Following a leisurely breakfast today is a free to explore the City of Nice. Enjoy a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais (seafront) and relax with some refreshments al fresco. Dinner is at your leisure before this evening’s Carnival Parade of Lights where Grandstand seating can be included (extra cost). The Nice Carnival Parade is made up of around eighteen floats designed on the year's theme and other figurines, including 30 made from traditional Papier-mâché in dazzling colours as well as street theatre and music groups from all over the world. By night the floats are illuminated and the evening parades light up the heart of the city centre. From each float, costumed models throw 80 to 100.000 flowers to an enthusiastic crowd and these ‘battles’ are staged on the same theme as the Carnival floats. You will make your own way back to the hotel afterwards.
Day 4: Breakfast included. Today we travel along the Riviera coast by coach to Menton & the Lemon Festival, which has a different theme each year – Creatures of the Deep 2022. We begin with an included visit to the Jardin des Biovès which during the Lemon Festival, is the central stage for an array of static sculptures designed to the annual theme. These are covered and made from thousands of oranges and lemons and is a truly spectacular sight. There will be free time afterwards for you to buy lunch and look around this compact seaside town before this afternoon’s Golden Fruit Parade where Grandstand seating is included. The atmosphere is set with the scattering of confetti for the magnificent parade of entertainers, brass bands, folk groups and dancers, in between the magnificent citrus fruit floats. Returning to the hotel the evening is at leisure.
Day 5: Breakfast included. Checking out of the hotel you will be transferred to the picturesque town of Saint-Paul de Vence where medieval walls encircle narrow streets and capture the heritage of more than a thousand years. (Here the streets are cobbled + the pathways steep in parts). It is well-known as a haven for artists from all schools, who rub shoulders with their illustrious peers including Folon, Tobiasse, César and Niky de Saint-Phalle. The village is an open-air gallery with artists at work in their studios and staging exciting exhibitions. Your time here is free to explore at your leisure.
